Montpellier, les Arceaux

«les Arceaux» and the adjacent district of «L’Ecusson» are the oldest and most lively neighborhoods of Montpellier.
Les Arceaux offers many interesting historical features, particularly its botanical gardens and aqueduct inspired by the world famous pont du Gard.

The aqueduct

With its two levels of arcades on 880 meters long, »Les Arceaux« is one of the most notorious city landmarks of Montpellier. Built in the 17th century, the traditions of Roman times were used to supply the growing city with water from the spring of St. Clement, about 14 km away.

Farmers and craft market

Les Arceaux’s farmers market is one of the city’s most important markets, it brings the best of the rich surrounding countryside to the heart of the city.
With more than 80 vendors, it includes many organic farmers bringing vegetables, olive oil, meats… as well as bakeries, seafood providers, cheese makers and specialty food carts to eat on the go or bring some local specialties with you.
You will also find local artisans and crafts as well as some traditional French second hand booksellers… Whether you want to shop or just take a stroll the farmers market will appeal to evey one of your senses.

Located at a stone throw or a short tram ride from the beating heart of the city, its bars, restaurants and boutiques, les Arceaux offers, the traditional atmosphere of a village within the city.
